Joshua Borton got an early start in his design career, attending a career technology school specializing in architectural design during his high school years before graduating with an architectural engineering degree from the University of Cincinnati. While in school in Cincinnati, he also worked constantly. Spending one year at KBA Architects developing his 3D modeling and construction drawing skills.

After graduating in 2011, he moved south to Atlanta where within two months he began collaborating with Tyler Perry on personal designs for various architectural projects. For the next eleven years, Josh was an essential piece for any and all permanent construction projects at Tyler Perry Studios including a 14-house residential neighborhood, a replica White House and a NYC backlot to name a few.

In late 2020, with much of the production world shut down due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Josh joined back up with Paul Wonsek, retired Tyler Perry Studios production designer, to help design the new SCAD film backlot in Savannah, GA. Essentially starting from scratch, Josh and Paul created an overall masterplan comprising of eleven distinct neighborhoods including a Savannah street, Brooklyn brownstone street, Upper West Side, Soho, a New York financial district and a Courthouse square. Within a few months, they designed each of the seventeen buildings from 3D concept to detailed construction drawings.

After returning to Tyler Perry Studios in early 2021, Josh began focusing on art directing, working on a string of productions including Mea Culpa, The Six Triple Eight and Beauty in Black. Josh is known for his hard work, dedication and expertise in the industry and continues to develop his abilities with each new project.
